Latin for Summer
Looking forward to any summertime in the Flint Hills one will always be presented with the weather. Early morning dew, cool freshness of the morning air, building of warmth through the day. Wind, always wind. All tapering off in the late afternoons as the sounds of evening approach. Crickets doing their best to interpret the temperatures. Birds of all specie filling the air with songs so relaxing one may forget the wind is even blowing.
The Flint Hills and prairies are a special place this time of year. Awash with live of the flora and all that live on and within this special place. Take time to stop and enjoy what is a unique one of a kind place on our planet.
It may come as a surprise to some that life is abundant here. How abundant? It has been thought the prairie ecosystem is one of the most diverse ecosystems on earth. Possibly succeeded only by the rain forests of South America. To flora and fauna alike the Flint Hills is home and has been for thousands of years.
